It seems like yesterday that Michael J. Fox was trading dates for amphetamines on Family Ties. It’s hard to believe that MJ, who will always be Alex P. Keaton to us, has been battling Parkinson’s disease for over 10 years . . .
Michael talks about his struggle with the disease during an appearance on Oprah that will air Tuesday. He says dealing with Parkinson’s is “like having a 4-year-old climbing on you all the time, and so whatever you're trying to do, you've got this 4-year-old and you're … just trying to be patient and focus on what you need to do."
But, he tells Oprah, he’s not going to let the disease be his entire identity.
"I'm a dad, I'm a husband, I'm an activist, I'm a writer and I'm just a student of the world," he says. "This is one fact of my life, but it's not the totality of my life. It doesn't define me."
Forget that cute kitten “hang in there” poster. We need a framed limited edition Back To The Future print with that quote below it in bold font. The man is kind of an inspiration.
