Well, this officially sucks.There's a new sex scandal at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy For Girls. Here's what we know: seven girls have been suspended, because of "inappropriate sexual conduct." This isn't just a case of young girls experimenting sexually; reports claim "preying", coercion, intimidation, and lying to investigators about what happened:
Quoting reports from the Afrikaans on Sunday newspaper, a 15-year-old "preyed" on another student, then coerced others into lying to investigators about what happened. Six other students were suspended after "being alleged to have touched each other intimately," or intimidating others into inappropriate behavior, the Telegraph reports.
Dammit. Winfrey contributed $40 million to this boarding school for impoverished girls, which opened in January 2007 - and was almost immediately rocked by the news that a dorm matron was arrested and charged with sexually abusing and assaulting six students and another supervisor. At the time, Winfrey, herself famously a survivor of sexual abuse, called the incident "one of the most devastating, if not the most devastating, experiences of my life." It'll be interesting to see what she says about this...
