We knew it was only a matter of time before the CW roped one of the original Melrose Place cast members into returning to anchor the reboot. Obviously, our first choice is Heather Locklear, but if that proves impossible, we'll settle for Laura Leighton...
Heather Locklear may have passed on the chance to be a part of the CW's Melrose Place reboot, but Laura Leighton — who played sassy schemer Sydney Andrews on the original Fox prime-time sudser — has said yes. Leighton will reprise her role in the pilot and then continue on as a recurring player, "if" the new Melrose gets ordered to series. (TV Guide)
We're excited about this news for two reasons: First, if memory serves, Sydney died when Samantha's dad mowed her down with a car on her wedding day at the end of season five, so what better way to kick off the reboot than to bring her back to life -- why not start things off as implausibly as possible? Second, with Laura Leighton signed on as a series regular, our odds are good that Doug Savant will also return for an episode or two (given that he's married to Leighton) and just like that we've got two original cast members for the price of one. Just one question though: will Sydney still be rocking her blood red nail polish and disdainful expression...
Yes. Now we're talking.
