According to an article in Playbill magazine, The Addams Family could be headed for Broadway. A musical based on Charles Addams' macabre cartoons -- and, presumably, the TV show they inspired -- is being created by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, who wrote the hit Jersey Boys, and songwriter Andrew Lippa. It's expected to hit Broadway late in 2009, following an out-of-town tryout.
No cast has been set yet, but Broadway veterans Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth (yes, Lilith from Cheers) are expected to head up a reading of the show sometime soon. (Sorry, we don't know how to get tickets.) In case anyone's asking, we'd like to suggest they get Christina Ricci to reprise one of her earliest movie roles and play Wednesday. With Brad Garrett as Lurch, naturally.
