Wilmer Valderrama, who played hapless foreign-exchange student Fez on That '70s Show and hosts the MTV show Yo Mama, may be getting another job. Fox has ordered a pilot for an hourlong comedy called The Emancipation of Ernesto, in which he'll play a "guileless innocent embarking on an epic quest to find his father amid a Los Angeles landscape polluted with excess." The show is said to be in modeled on Forrest Gump and Steve Martin's The Jerk, although we can see some aspects of Crash, Falling Down, and maybe a little Melrose Place in there too.
Actually, the show doesn't sound half-bad. The real question is whether the Miami-born, Venezuela-raised Valderrama -- who, of course, is less well-known for his acting skills than for his links to such starlets as Lindsay Lohan, Mandy Moore and Jennifer Love Hewitt -- can pull off an hourlong mix of comedy and drama. If so, we're hoping for a lot of famous female guest stars.
