Joe, 21, Emerson College

What's the dating scene like at Emerson?

I guess it's pretty incestuous, especially within quidditch. We're 250 members strong, and there are people on the same team dating, and people on different teams dating, and people dating fans, and fans dating cheerleaders...

Is there a lot of dating within your team?

Not on the World Cup team that's here today, but on our intramural team there's a ton of inter-team dating.

Are there quidditch groupies?

Yeah, absolutely. I used to date the head cheerleader of the quidditch cheerleading squad. Other than that, it hasn't just been quidditch, but it's a great point of interest, and a great conversation starter.

Dating the head cheerleader is usually what the quarterback does. Is there a quarterback of quidditch?

I think that seekers get all the glory, but during the game it's the most underappreciated position. It's weird, because once you catch the snitch everybody's cheering you, but other than that moment, there's not much.

"Catching the snitch" sounds like getting an STD. But moving on: playing quidditch is essentially turning your fantasies into reality. What do you think is the best way to approach your partner about making fantasies a reality in the bedroom?

Honestly, I think the best way to go about it is to just start to do it. Just go for it, and if they're uncomfortable with it, they should be okay with telling you to stop and you should respect that. But I feel like bringing up something that might be taboo is just a little awkward.

What do I need to know to be a wizard in the bedroom?

The best thing you can do in the bedroom is focus on getting pleasure from giving pleasure. That's the best way to keep everybody happy.

What should I do to make a first date magical?

Definitely no movie. Dinner's okay, but I think walking to a place with good dessert is a good idea. And I've never done this, but I think playing pool would be a good date, because you're talking the whole time, and there's a lot of, like, "Oh, let me show you how to hold the pool cue."

If you get a girl's number at a party, do you call her or text her?

Joe: The girl I'm dating currently, I got her number from a mutual friend, and was deliberating between calling and texting. I went with calling, and that seemed to work out, and I found out later that if I'd texted instead of called, it wouldn't have worked out. So I would go with call her; I think it sets a good precedent for confidence.

What about finding people on Facebook?

Joe: I think that's a good way to get to know someone, but I don't know if it's a good way to ask someone out.

My roommate keeps having loud sex while I'm home and I can't get any work done. How should I handle the situation?

I would just have louder sex and see if that shuts them up. But if that's not an option, the best way to go about it would be to bring it up in a joking manner, and they'll probably be so embarrassed by it that they'll stop.

My girlfriend's parents don't approve of us dating. What powers should I use to change their minds?

I think the best way you can act toward a girlfriend's parents is to just treat them like regular people — the same goes for cops, I guess. Respect them because they're older than you, but don't talk up or down to them. Just talk to them like you would talk to a friend.

If Harry Potter was a sex act, what would it be?

It would definitely have to do with pubic hair.
