Reader Feedback on "Design for Living"
I can't say that I'm a total video game junkie. In fact, I'd say that for the most part, that's not part of my life. What is part of my life though, are the various game downloads off of the internet, like WordJong (my recent OCD fave), or Boggle. Time disappears into a sore mouse-pushing hand and tense shoulders, as I lose track of how long I'm repeating the same motions over and over, trying to make things fit and be complete. I do see why I do this to myself, when I'm supposed to be paying bills, or cleaning the house, even spending time with my fiance. I see that when things in my world don't fit, can't seem to be made sense of, and can't be put into order as fast as I need them to be for my mental health I escape to a world where I can make beautiful words out of chaos, clean up a screen full of jumbled letters and put it all into order, at the same time affirming that I really am an intelligent person; after all, just look at those high scores! These games definitly have a purpose, but for me I see how the therapeutic use for them ends when it means I'm choosing to distance those I love, rather than spend time interacting with those warm, live human beings in my life who need communication and connection. That being said, I'm hitting the internet right now to look for The Sims! Who couldn't use one more place to OCD this time of year, just for a little bit?
