A perfect balance of wry detachment with honest introspection.

Sarah - best. one. ever. I love your style for Crying in Restaurants, and I'm sad to think that the next one's the final chapter. It's like you called me for one last coffee-and-dessert before you move to New York. I'm going to be all nervous, and I'm hoping it won't show...

100% not fiction, nor overly dramatized.

You are awesome, Miss Hepola.

Wow...I hope this is fiction. I'd be a stammering idiot when faced with a crying woman, in public, no less! I've been single, and right to be so all along.

Is she being a little dramatic?

Really well written: humorous, poignant, truthful. I'm also looking forward to Chapter 6.

Awesome. The article, not the experiences behind it. I'm a guy, but I've heard what happens when you go into the ladies' room crying, and you're exactly right. I look forward to the final installment, not because it's the last one, but to see how this all ends.

I'm always shocked when I read about women crying over broken relationships, because they always seemed to me to be so much stronger. Men are always the last to know, something divorce statistics bear out (most divorces are initiated by women). I remember crying over my own lost loves, lost at a moment I couldn't tell but saw too plainly in retrospect. A little more bitter, weeping over a bottle of Ernest & Julio Gallo with a younger sister bereft of any emotional compass for these moments -- she had barely dated, and would soon marry the only man she ever would. It took three years of food tasting like cardboard before I got over that awful night.
