Reader Feedback on "Bullwhips and Cookies"
Loved the writing! Smart, funny, and real.

Never having been a sub...a dom...or a woman, I can't say whether this piece speaks with authority. All I know is I thoroughly enjoyed the writing, and the writer seems hot. And I loved entering her world. More, please! (Is that sub? Or dom?)

I found this funny, smart, tender, and surprisingly hot. I'm unlikely to ever attend a fetish party, but Ms. Leigh's assured storytelling makes me feel like indulging my kinkier side, however I may find it. Bravo, sister!

I'm a big fan of the shy person getting whipped genre. Great story. More from Jennifer Leigh!

Wow. Seriously, you mean kinky people have parties where they hang around being awkward and eating cookies? NO WAY!!!

I thought the details were excellently noticed, such as the metaphor of the teenage dance, pointing out the effects of limited testosterone in the room.

I loved this. And I'm neither a big fan of S/M nor of "My Blowiest Blow Job Ever" essays. I'm just regular. The writing is very funny and very smart. As for the points made in SN's feedback, I think the piece is packed with details that are surprising and revealing and more importantly, human. I can pretty much imagine the surface incidentals Ms. Leigh has chosen to skim. And I think they're deemphasized because she knows those are the most predictable and uninteresting elements of the scene. I already know what a black leather dildo feels like when it's sticky (not really) but I didn't know they served Oreos. I love Oreos. The heart of this piece is the confirmation that, no matter what, safety, warmth and respect are really what allows you to slink out of the box and connect and explore and, you know, go wild. Me, maybe I'd just try a new diet soda for that experience, but still...I think this piece helped me "get" something I don't think I ever entirely got. Bravo. Now please strap this on.

Heh. This is pretty much exactly what I've experienced at Male on Male spanking parties. Right down to the Oreo cookies and soft drinks. Like the author, I waited till I was mid-30's before actually doing anything about my fantasies. That first time I showed up, I didn't know anyone there, and I was pretty nervous. But there are rules set up that ensure that everyone is respected. After going for about 6 months to this party, I met my current boyfriend there. We've been together for 2 1/2 years. It's wonderful, and the only problem is having to lie to everyone whenever they ask how we met. ;)

For a shorty, it was I guess, entertaining. But it lacked content in regards to what sort of people were at this gathering; what age, etc. I thought you could have done more with that. And the climax was a let down. I think you could have used more details than adjectives. For those of us not familiar with the fetish scene, I feel as though I learned absolutely nothing; or I just didn't understand what you were trying to achieve.
