Watch: Spike Jonze's short film based on Arcade Fire's The Suburbs

Over at The AV Club, Steven Hyden notes that "You can’t be a defining concept record of your time if you don’t have an accompanying movie directed by an acclaimed filmmaker." He's actually got a point — Pink Floyd's The Wall was the work of Sir Alan Parker, and then you've got... um... Purple Rain?

Never mind; bottom line, Spike Jonze has a new short, Scenes From The Suburbs, based on Arcade Fire's massively successful album The Suburbs (which dominates alternative-rock radio to this very minute — "Sprawl II" is currently playing in our office), and cowritten by Jonze and Arcade Fire's Win and Will Butler. And the best part is, you can stream it for free over at Mubi. [UPDATE: Mubi may have pulled a bait-and-switch, but you can currently stream the film on YouTube.] The next time I hear Regine Chassagne singing, I may well tell her to stop, but I'm still going to go check this out.
