Jean-Luc Godard just might accept his honorary Oscar

Jean-Luc Godard may or may not snub the Oscars by not picking up his Lifetime Achievement award.

It looks like the Jean-Luc Godard Saga might be nearing resolution. After his initial snub, Godard hinted in a handwritten letter that he might show up to the Academy Awards to pick up his honorary Oscar, if he feels like it.

If you're not up to speed on this story, here are its major plot points:

  • Godard directs Breathless, becomes synonymous with French New Wave, reinvents cinema.
  • Fifty years later, Hollywood asks Godard to fly to Los Angeles for an award.
  • Godard is like, "Yeah, good luck with that." His companion Anne-Marie Mieville breaks the news to Hollywood.
  • Film fans wonder if Hollywood has ever even watched Contempt.
  • Godard flips the script, thanks Hollywood, claims he may attend the ceremony after all.

And that's pretty much where we are... for now. But considering the director's distate for lazy narrative structures, this story might get stranger yet.
