After what seems to have been a lot of negotiating since the idea was first brought up a few weeks ago, MTV has announced that, yes, Britney Spears will be opening the 25th-anniversary Video Music Awards broadcast on Sunday.
Of course, what MTV doesn't want is a repeat of last year's VMAs, when Britney minced and mumbled her way through the song "Give Me More" in an outfit that, for the very first time ever, made us think she was underdressed. So instead of singing and dancing, this time around she'll do something "fun and unexpected," MTV Networks Music Group President Van Toffler says.
We have no idea what that might be -- but if it has something to do with host Russell Brand and that elephant, we'll be watching.
