Top Five Songs We'd Like to See Performed During itunes Night on "American Idol"

Posted by Lindy Parker

Tonight, the idols will compete with songs chosen from the list of top one hundred itunes downloads.  We're both excited and concerned about this news.  On one hand, there could be some really great songs, and on the other hand there's probably a lot of Katy Perry.  We checked out the list this morning, and we've compiled the top five songs we'd like to see performed during tonight's show...

1. "Jai Ho" by A.R. Rahman featuring the Pussycat Dolls.  In our minds this is the obvious choice for the opening group number.

2.  "Decode" by Paramore.  Allison Iraheta, get it girl.  Do us proud.

3.  "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon.  Can you not see Danny Gokey rocking this out?  We actually think DG has quite a similar voice to Caleb Followill.

4. "Chasing Pavements" by Adele.  We want Lil Rounds to sing something that she can knock out of the park.

5. Adam Lambert singing any song on the list except "Lifeline" by Papa Roach.

List of songs we're not looking forward to, but which seem inevitable:

1.  Kris Allen doing "Come on Get Higher" by Matthew Nathanson -- but only because there's no John Mayer songs available.

2.  Scott MacIntyre continuing his parade of inspirational ballads with "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus.

3.  Any one singing Britney, Beyoncé or Taylor Swift.

FYI, Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" is on the list.  We hesitate to even mention it.  It's a disaster waiting to happen.

About Lindy Parker

Lindy Parker has worked as a ghostwriter, editor, dance instructor and a purveyor of dreams, one beer at a time. She now writes for hooksexup.com's TV blog, "The Remote Island." She loves Charles Dickens and Gabriel Garcia Marquez and also, straight-to-video releases with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. It's possible she reads more teen fiction than she should. She hails from Los Angeles, her hometown and soul mate, but she lives in Brooklyn, the fling she'll never forget.

Olivia Purnell left Ohio for sunny Los Angeles; then found that she couldn’t ignore New York City’s call, and brought herself to Brooklyn where she has worked with GenArt, BlackBook, the School of American Ballet, and finished an M.A. in Creative Writing from N.Y.U. She loves one-liners with sting and hates the stench of the subway in the summer. That said, she can’t get enough of either.

He's the coauthor of The No S Diet and author of The Year in Weird, along with hundreds of magazine articles. He lives near the beach in Los Angeles, just like the gang from Three's Company.

Nicole Ankowski has lived in Ohio, Oakland, and on the high plains of South Dakota, but is now proud to call Brooklyn home. She wrote for alternative weekly papers in the first two states, and tried to learn Lakota in the last. (The vowels can be tricky.) She just earned her MFA in Creative Writing and has been published in Beeswax literary journal. She is unable to resist good writing or bad TV.
