Apparently unfazed by the mixed success American TV networks have had redoing British sitcoms (The Office -- good, Coupling -- bad), ABC has decided to remake a comedy from France. Fais pas ci, fais pas ça (Don't Do This, Don't Do That) is a family show, but told in a documentary format (like The Office -- good!).
According to a French synopsis (thanks, Google Translation), the program is about an Odd Couple pairing of families who pretty much hate each other -- one only cares about education and authority, while the other only cares about "pleasure" -- but agree to be filmed for a year to see how well the school system is working for the kids. Samantha Who? co-executive producer Bob Kushell, who's adapting the show, says that the format "gives me the opportunity to explore the minutiae of family life and not have to wrap up every episode with a happy ending." (We hope that doesn't mean everyone winds up drinking espresso, reading Sartre and contemplating the futility of existence -- but, hey, whatever makes you laugh.)
