So, we just caught the new trailer for ABC's reboot of Cupid, the fantasy comic romantic drama (can we squeeze ghosts in there too?) that's on ABC's midseason schedule, where, we presume, it will replace Boston Legal or some such thing. And that is the second incarnation of the show, the first having starred Paula Marshall and Jeremy Piven and having had a brief but celebrated run in 1998. And we have to say... the new version really could use some of whatever Piven's got.
And some Paula Marshall... sure. But really, as much as we like Paula Marshall then and today, she was pretty much the straightman catcher to Jeremy Piven's hyperactive, wildswinging pitcher on the original Cupid, which had a short but celebrated run way back in 1998.
And as much as we like Bobby Cannavale right now, we're just not sure that he can really sell the utter schlockiness of a show concerning a) a guy who claims to be a Greek god b) whose purpose is to make people get together and be all happy and crap the way Piven could.
See what you think, and get a peek of the original series, after the jump.
