Question 1: In a relationship, how do you define cheating?

> Return to Participants List

personJohn: Kissing is enough to be cheating. Physicality is cheating. You can have a deep friendship with somebody else — my best friend is a girl, so I don't think having an open, communicative relationship with the opposite sex is cheating.
personDavid: Flirting isn't cheating. Looking at other people isn't cheating. Cheating would be sharing intimacy with someone, knowing you're not going to talk about that experience with your mate.
personMartin: You have to be naked for it to count. I don't think making out is really cheating. But anything else is. Getting a blowjob is definitely cheating. If you have a female friend you like to hang out with, maybe flirt with a little, hug and stuff, that's okay. As long as you know where your heart is.
personEmma: Cheating is physical contact with a person you're attracted to. Or when you declare your attraction, as in your mental attraction, your love, to another person.
personJulia: I guess there's two definitions of cheating. Straight-up physical involvement with somebody else isn't so bad. Real cheating would be emotional involvement, as opposed to, "Oops, I kissed somebody."
personSandy: Any kind of physical thing is cheating. If you're flirting with someone with the intention of getting with them, that's also cheating. If it's just like, "Okay, you know, I'm acknowledging that we have chemistry," it can be a nice reminder for your partner that you're still desirable. But kissing, blowjobs, all of that is cheating. Having an emotional online affair is cheating. Phone sex is cheating.
personChad: Kissing, or any type of sexual contact, without your partner's approval. Not looking at porn or flirting.
personDupé: If my partner meets a girl in a bar and they flirt, he could even buy her a drink, that's perfectly fine. But once they start touching, exchanging phone numbers, kissing — even if you don't go to bed together, that's cheating. You're supposed to be able to keep doing what you're doing if I walk into the room, basically. I think flirting is very healthy, because it's fantasizing, and there's nothing wrong with that. It may even help. You may go out with your girlfriends, flirt with a bunch of people, get all hot and bothered, then go home to your man and have amazing sex.
personCarm: Anything more than flirting.
personJames: Anything less than sex is forgivable.
personNadia: It's completely specific to the relationship. I kind of enjoy checking out other women with my boyfriend. In fact, I think I do it more than he does.
personMark: Sexual attraction or playful flirting are on one side of the line; boning and blowjobs are on the other. The problem is that flirting, porn and fantasies can be signs that you want out of the relationship. But it doesn't become cheating until something actually happens.

Question 1: In a relationship, what do you consider cheating?
Question 2: What's your experience with open relationships?
Question 3: When you lust after other people, do you tell your partner?
Question 4: If you discover your partner's cheating, how do you react?
Question 5: If you find out a friend of yours has cheated on their partner, does that change your opinion of your friend?
Question 6: What do you think about having sex with one person for the rest of your life?
