The recent announcement of a Richard Kelly-less Donnie Darko sequel reminded me of a universal truth: just because something’s good, just because that something’s profitable, does not mean there should be more of it. The original Donnie Darko was a deeply personal work and it was that creator’s touch that made it such a wonderful artifact. S. Darko may be end up being a fine film but what’s the point without Kelly’s voice? Silent Hill without Team Silent has already proven to be just as questionable a proposition. Climax Group’s Silent Hill: Origins for PSP did a yeoman’s job of returning to the Faustian titular world. But even with the help of Akira Yamaoka, it was missing the artistic vision, the soul of the games created by Hiroyuki Owaku and Suguru Murakoshi. These new screens of Double Helix’s (formerly The Collective) Silent Hill Homecoming (formerly Silent Hill V) are already hinting at a similar result. Double Helix clearly have a love for the series’ atmospherics and tropes but we’ve been in these desiccated halls before. It remains to be seen if these new minds are more than just fine craftsmen.
Check out the rest of the screens over at Jeux-France and props to NeoGAF user Ether-Snake for the find.
