I first heard about UC Berkeley's Starcraft 101 course over a month ago, and I passed on reporting it here because I was convinced it was a hoax. Well, now we have video that proves otherwise.
The teacher, Alan Feng, is a young, enthusiastic physics student at Berkeley who wants to be taken very seriously. Stick it out till the end, where the instructor makes the straight-face claim that "Life is a reflection of Starcraft" and acts insulted when his students giggle. Still, it looks like a blast. Just check out the first week's homework:
- Pick a tech tree and report on its strengths and weaknesses
- Find a professional replay video that uses a tech tree strategy to great effect
- Research the favored units from pro Starcraft players
So awesome.
