• Why I'm Excited For What WiiWare Could Soon Become

  Even though it was a firmware update that pretty much everybody called well over a year ago, it was still pretty exciting to see that SD Card channel go live on the Wii yesterday. Almost everyone who has downloaded more than one game from the Wii Shop Channel has felt the aggravation of having to "clean out the fridge" at some point, and with the twenty minutes of rearranging necessary for me to download the long-awaited Bit.Trip Beat last week, I was pretty much pissed at my favorite little white box. Getting home from work yesterday to see its inviting blue glow, I just wanted to hug the Wii and tell it that everything was going to be alright now. First, I could happily move my Virtual Console and WiiWare games to the SD card without worrying about forgetting them forever. Then I could reinstall the Nintendo Channel and the Wii Fit channel I had to delete to make room for World of Goo. Ooh, and then I could finally install that Mario Kart Wii channel I'd been putting off. And then I can finish that game of Paper Mario I had to remove from the Wii when I downloaded Tetris Party! Having access to these games without taking up precious system memory was not only liberating but a revelation. Read More... • Resident Evil Arguments that Need to Die

  With the recent release of the Resident Evil 5 demo, I've been subjected to something far more stomach-turning than hordes of the undead running amok in an African village. Of course, I speak of the Resident Evil fanboyism I assumed had ended long after the release of Resident Evil 4; you see, with the newest RE being made in the model of the series' previous game, purists are still upset that many of the things they've come to cherish about Resident Evil have been left to rot nearly 5 years ago. If you're a sane and functioning member of society, then you've probably realized that the Resident Evil 4 renovation was the best possible thing to happen to the series--and I commend you for your common sense. However, it's entirely possible that the drastic shift in the franchise still burns the living hell out of your beans; if this is the case, I bear you no personal grudge. I simply wish to ridicule your wrong opinions out of existence. And now, friends, I present the Resident Evil arguments that need to die. Read More...   So what if Japan got this demo weeks and weeks ago? The all-region version is here now, letting everyone in on Capcom’s latest not-a-zombie slaughterfest. • The Chase May Revive Platforming

  Back in November, Derrick posted a trailer for an obscure DS platformer called The Chase: Felix Meets Felicity. Today, Gametrailers has uploaded a lengthy gameplay video that demonstrates the game's innovations.  The Chase is a simple platformer that melds the speed of Sonic and light exploration of Mario into a satisfyingly well-paced jaunt, seemingly poised to reach the lofty heights of its old school progenitors. Don't let the cutesy character design fool you, the game makes use of an innovative stylus input mechanic and adds the suspense of Dino Run's wall of impending doom for what looks like will be a fresh little subway time sink. • Whatcha Listening To: The Protomen (And So Should You)

  [The Protomen] have just released a demo off of their upcoming album, a song called "Breaking Out," and it's so incredibly high concept that it should collapse: Mega Man as viewed through the lens of Rock Americana? How could they possibly have succeeded in this? And, having succeeded, what task could possibly thwart them? --Tycho, Penny Arcade Overclocked Game Remixes and other video game covers take up a significant amount of real estate in my iPod. Some Remix artists have even tried adding lyrics to their songs, and to be honest, I feel kind of embarrassed when I listen to them, even if they're done in the name of self-parody. Even when I was Disney-aged, I never liked it when characters burst into song. Having my video game heroes serenade me makes me flush. It's a little different with Hyadain's stuff, since it's so silly and over the top to begin with, but English language attempts at character exploration through song just...never reaches me. Then I heard there existed a Mega Man rock opera. A serious business Mega Man rock opera. And when a good friend of mine recommended it, I thought, "Oh God, this is going to be death." Read More...
